Oi! Don't Diss the Kit

The Kit Lens is an underestimated Starting Lens

Upping the Ante - I happen to use a "Non-IS" Kit Lens, but that is Cool!
When I picked up my entry-level DSLR, it came with a packaged lens that unfortunately, seems to get the bad rap amongst a lot of people - The Kit Lens. The first question that comes to my mind was "Why?"

If you will ask me, I consider that the Kit Lens is an underestimated starting lens. Why do you think it is bundled on a starter level camera in the first place if it isn't, right? The thing is the Kit lens is a standard zoom lens with specs of 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6. For someone who is just starting into photography, that range offers a lot of options for photography. You can use it in the 18mm end and you have a very good range to shoot landscapes and the 35mm range is good for portraits. For its inexpensive price (Consider it as free since it came bundled with a camera), the kit lens produces excellent images when used properly. In my experience, I even use the standard kit lens as a "budget" macro lens (without the reversing thing) and it do wonders. There is so much that a kit lens can do that I just cannot believe that a lot of people talk about it in the lowest regard.

The only thing I can say to them is - "Oi! Don't Diss the Kit!"

As within the theme of this "Phlog", I will start posting pictures taken with my Kit lens. I do hope that you will watch out for those in the future.

Until the next post,
